Cleaner Production Training Program Increases SMEs’ Profitability and Productivity
It is common knowledge that much of the cost of a business cost belongs to production cost. However, it is not so well known that the overloading of waste can turn out to be quite the burden to the accumulating bills without the companies even realising it.
Cleaner Production Training Program
If a company is looking to increase productivity and profitability but it’s clueless on how to begin, Cleaner Production Training Program (‘CP’) can be the answer. CP is one of the Department of Environment (‘DOE’)’s programmes under the Tenth Malaysia Plan (‘RMK10’). This program provides free consulting services given by appointed consultant to any Malaysian Small and Medium Enterprises (‘SMEs’) that wish to adopt cleaner production method in running their business.
Cleaner production has been defined by the United Nation Environment Programme (‘UNEP’) to be “the continuous application of an integrated preventive environmental strategy applied to processes, products, and services to increase eco-efficiency and reduce risks to humans and the environment”.
CP is one of the government’s initiatives to get the SMEs to support and commit to preventing and controlling pollution and, thus, improving the compliance for the Environmental Quality Act 1974. Furthermore, DOE aims to enhance the capability of SMEs in adopting cleaner production that is vital for economic and sustainable development.
A business that adopts cleaner production is a “green” company. The benefits of being a “green” company are getting more popular as more companies’ decision in choosing the more sustainable ways of running a business are getting rewarded. The “green” companies are known to have safer and higher quality products or services that consumers are more likely to purchase. In addition, companies that adopt cleaner production will learn to manage their resources and waste more efficiently. This will then lead to lesser production cost. SMEs that embrace cleaner production will also provide a safer working environment for their employees and, thus, reducing their worries and increasing their productivity.
